Birmingham psychiatrist to serve APA Assembly

At the November APA Assembly in Washington, D.C., Paul O’Leary, MD, was elected recorder and nominated for speaker-elect of the APA Assembly.

“I feel fortunate to be able to interface with our local government officials, and work on expanding our communities access to mental health care,” O’Leary said.

Dr. O’Leary sees outpatients at Cooper Green and inpatients at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. He is a board certified in adult, child and adolescent, and forensic psychiatry.

Additionally, he volunteers his time and effort as a member of the APA, where he serves on a number of committees and holds positions in the Assembly and the American Medical Association.

O’Leary is the APA Area 5 Assembly Representative and serves on the Legislative and Public Affairs Committee of the Alabama Psychiatric Physicians Association.

His involvement in in organized medicine allows him to continue to advocate at the local, state and national level for improved access mental health care.
